They Have Dreams: Saving School Rights for Underprivileged Children

Amid economic hardship and rising schooling expenses, children of daily wage workers face immense risks of dropping out. Khairu Ummah's targeted scholarship scheme keeps their aspirations alive.

"When I grow up, I want to become a teacher in my village," says a fourth-grade elementary school student in a rural hamlet of West Java. The statement is delivered with shining eyes over a well-worn notebook.

Yet behind such heartfelt dreams, parents working as informal day-laborers frequently confront harrowing decisions: buying rice for family dinner or paying overdue school examination fees. In remote areas, this economic friction is the primary driver of dropout rates during the transition from primary to junior secondary school.

"Poverty must never be the reason a child loses their right to learn. Education is the most reliable bridge to break intergenerational cycles of hardship."

Subsidy Schemes & Continuous Mentorship

Through the campaign "They Have Dreams. Help Them Stay in School!", Yayasan Sedekah Khairu Ummah supports high-potential students from vulnerable households with concrete interventions:

  • 1. Operational School Fee Support: Settling overdue tuition arrears, examination dues, and required textbooks to prevent student dropouts.
  • 2. Dignified Learning Equipment: Providing new school uniforms, sturdy shoes, bags, and stationery sets to foster student confidence in the classroom.
  • 3. Academic & Welfare Monitoring: Volunteer teams conduct home visits to monitor report cards, character development, and general family health.

Transparent Mobilization

As of this audit dispatch, the program has mobilized Rp 25,028,471 directly via the foundation's independent technology platform, ensuring every contribution directly impacts students without predatory third-party fee leakage.
